The history behind this film is simple. The little tramp meets a beautiful blind girl selling flowers on the street, which mistakenly takes it for a rich duke. Learning that the operation may return to her eyes, the little tramp is embarking on the quest for money.
In a series of amusing adventures that only Chaplin could think of, he, after all, raise money, but because of this gets in prison. She did an operation, while the little tramp was sitting in jail, and try to find her mysterious benefactor. The final scene, when she learns that he is not wealthy duke but only a little tramp, makes the audience weep ...
Chaplin wrote about the movie plot:
Plot of film history, I suggested a circus clown, lost his eyesight in an accident. He had a small daughter, is very painful and nervous, and before discharge from hospital the doctor warned him that he must hide from the blind daughter until she is not stronger enough to make the attack, which it will now not able to do. Houses clown walked around the room, spotykayas, natalkivayas furniture, and a girl laugh merrily. But it was too sentimental, and in the «big city lights» blindness clown turned to the girl-florist.
